Lois Williams grew up on Britain’s Wash coast. Its remote beaches and farmlands shaped her imagination. Writing of this formative landscape she says, ‘a wide horizon met me whether I looked inland or out to sea and this created a sense of anticipation and curiosity—waiting for things to come into view’.
Later she travelled, studying and settling in the US, where she was Lecturer in English at the University of Pittsburgh and a visiting poet in schools and community arts programmes.
Williams’ poems and creative nonfiction have been published in Britain and north America, with pieces appearing in, among others, Verse Daily, Cave Wall, 5AM, Fourth River, New England Review, Rotary Dial, Antiphon and Granta. Her memoir chapter 'The House of Provisions', was awarded a notable essay listing from Best American Essays in 2009.
She has also written as a reviewer and as a contributor to several artist-writer collaborations.
